The 16s and 16 Pro: Colors, Sizes, and Capabilities Compared to the 15s: New Features for Apple Intelligence
The 6.1-inch and the 6.7-inch displays on the 16 and 16 Plus are the same size as their predecessors. Other than the once-again vertical lenses, the design hasn’t changed much — but the 16s do come in a few new and more vivid colors. They are more saturated than the washed out colors of the 15 series, with vibrant new Ultramarine, teal and pink options joining white and black.
The newest models of the iPhone are ready for Apple Intelligence, which will be launched in English next month. These features include the ability to search for images in your library by describing them and creating custom emoji.
Most of Apple’s revenue comes from its iPhones, which have had poor sales in the last few months. In May, Apple reported a steep quarterly decline in its iPhone sales, marking the biggest drop in iPhone sales since the height of the company’s pandemic-fueled production delays.
The phones feature a physical camera control button, placed on the side of the phone, which Apple says allows users a one-click option to open the camera, take a photo, and start recording.
The 16 Pro also allows for videos to be recorded in 4K resolution at 120 frames per second and for better audio recording capabilities, the company said.
New Developments in Macintosh Intelligence for Sleep Apnea Detection, Hearing Protection, Hearing Tests and Hearing Aids
The ability to rewrite, fix and summarize texts, notes and emails is available thanks to the features integrated into Apple’s Writing Tools.
Next month, Apple Intelligence will be available in U.S. English and with both the iPadOS and Macintosh computer operating systems.
The Apple Watch Series 10 has a thin profile and larger screen, which Apple says is up to 40% brighter when viewed at an angle. While you are sleeping, it can be used to detect signs of sleep Apnea. The new watch has a built in water temperature and depth sensor.
There was a small update to Apple’s over the ear headphones. There is a new device with a new color, and it does not use the same charging port as before.
The company says that means they offer hearing protection, a hearing test and hearing aid feature. Hearing test and hearing aid features are still awaiting authorization from global health authorities.
The Case for an All-New Camera Control: The 16 and the AirPods Pro 2 are Set to Arrive on September 20th, 2015
But these non-Pro iPhone 16 models also get an all-new feature: the “camera control” that acts as a dedicated shutter button and a way to change various settings both in the Camera app and elsewhere. The new button comes alongside some other camera upgrades to the 16, which now has the “equivalent” of four lenses despite only having two lenses.
The 64gigabyte version of the iPhone 16 is $799 while the 128gigabyte version is $899, with the same built-in storage. Both phones are set to land on September 20th, with pre-orders opening on September 13th.
An over-the-counter hearing aid will be made available by Apple later this year. Apple is launching a couple of other hearing-focused features on the AirPods Pro 2, including a feature designed to protect hearing and a clinical-grade hearing test. These features become available in a free software update in more than 100 countries and regions this fall.
The Watch Ultra didn’t get any major updates during this event, but Apple announced a sleek satin black finish as well as a titanium Milanese Loop band that Apple says is “made from corrosion-resistant titanium and designed for scuba.”
Apple says its new device is 20 percent lighter than the Series 9 and is available in four colors: black, titanium, rose gold and silver. The Watch Series 10 will be available in September at a cost of $399.
The Apple 16th Design Showcase: Action Button, Shortcut, and Searching for Things You Didn’t Know Before You Ordered
Yet Apple is also outfitting the iPhone 16’s Camera Control button with a new feature, called Visual Intelligence, which will automatically search for things you take photos of. You can also use it to perform other actions, such as snapping a photo of a concert poster and adding it to your calendar.
The event has come to a close. Apple had many announcements to share, including new additions to its Watches and AirPods, as well as the highlight of today’s showcase, the iPhone 16.
Apple says the ceramic glass in these models is 50 percent tougher than the first generation of Ceramic Shield, and a new manufacturing process makes the body colors richer. The iPhone 16 comes in pink, teal, ultramarine, white, and black.
Every iPhone in this lineup has the Action Button, which Apple debuted last year. This replaces the Mute switch. You can customize the Action Button to toggle on a flashlight, a Shortcut, or some other setting. It is possible to make it function exactly like the Mute switch, even if you miss it.
Why the iPhone is so popular that it is going to run out of business: Apple’s 10th Year is a Supercycle for the Sales of the App Store
The rear cameras are now stacked vertically on a smaller pill-shaped camera bump. The arrangement is more appropriate for capturing spatial video than the Vision Pro. It is a fresh look for the regular iPhone and Apple likes to change things up every few years.
The 16 and 16 Plus will be available starting next week at $799. Is the new buttons worth the upgrade? That’s what I’m going to find out as soon as I can get my hands on them for longer than an afternoon.
A “supercycle” is what it sounds like: an extended period of economic growth in a boom and bust cycle. The phrase is being applied to something. And those who track the tech market closely believe—or want to believe—that that time has come for iPhone sales to heat up.
According to a WIRED article, Dan Ives, the managing director of Wedbush Securities who tends to be bullish on Apple, believes the current year will be the strongest iPhone unit year ever, making it a supercycle.
Analysts at Morgan Stanley wrote in a research note ahead of the Apple event that they see potential for Apple to perform better than historical seasonality, even though the announcement wouldn’t necessarily move the market in a big way.
Apple’s iPhone may be the most influential piece of technology in the world, but last year its sales declined for four straight quarters before getting a holiday season boost. An estimated 1.5 billion people already use iPhones around the world (though Apple has not confirmed this data), and the broader smartphone market is now considered saturated. The upgrade cycles have been longer. Apple is required in the UK to have security updates for its phones for the next five years. The aggressive Right to Repair advocacy in the US has led to consumers hang on to their old phones for longer, even small changes to the repairability of the iPhone.
There are more photo editing features, as well as a much more natural-sounding and interpretive voice assistant.
