Washington DC police officers were suspended after being found guilty for the death of a 20-year-old man.

Jury verdicts in the case of a 20-year-old man’s death in a 2020 parked Revel scooter collision

Two suspended Washington, DC, officers have been found guilty on charges related to the death of a 20-year-old man during a 2020 police pursuit, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said in a news release Wednesday.

The jury found that a police vehicle was the cause of Mr. Hylton-Brown’s death. The jury also found that Sutton and Zabavsky “conspired” to hide details about the deadly crash from Metropolitan Police Department officials.

In October 2020, Hylton-Brown, 20, was driving a Revel scooter on the sidewalk without a helmet, prompting officers to turn on their emergency lights and attempt to make a traffic stop, CNN previously reported citing an indictment.

When the police pursuit began it spanned more than 10 blocks and at times accelerated to twice the speed limit, according to the indictment. The officers tailed Hylton-Brown into an alleyway and as he exited the alley he was struck by an oncoming civilian vehicle, CNN reported.

In a statement to CNN, Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee said, “Since the beginning of this process, MPD has supported the independent and thorough review process conducted by the United States Attorney’s Office. We have confidence in our judicial system, and we trust that the jury examined all the facts, deliberated carefully, and arrived at their decision fairly.”

Investigating the Charge of a Louisiana Officer on New Year’s Day for the Collision between Three Teens and a Man in a Red Light

CNN has reached out to Sutton’s attorney, J. Michael Hannon, but has not received a response. CNN is making attempts to reach an attorney for Zabavsky.

A Louisiana police officer was charged with negligent homicide after he crashed into a vehicle carrying three teenagers while in pursuit of a suspect in a different vehicle during a high-speed chase, according to the District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District of Louisiana.

The District Attorney Tony Clayton said in a statement that the officer from the Police Department was arrested on New Year’s Day for his involvement in a crash that killed two people. Liam is in critical condition after he was in the vehicle.

Clayton says Cauthron was in pursuit of a man – Tyquel Zanders, 24, – accused of stealing a car when he ran a red light and crashed into the vehicle carrying the three teens.

All police unit dash camera and officer camera footage will be analyzed by my office along with interviews with witnesses and communication with the officer, in order to fully investigate the case. “Sirens and police vehicles do not give an officer the authority to cut through a red light. They must slow down or come to a complete stop when human life is in danger.”

A statement from Brusly High School says Maggie Dunn was in 11th grade, while Caroline Gill was in 10th grade. The girls were cheerleaders at the high school, according to the post.
