Two rioters and Trump are sued over the death of a police officer

Donald Trump’s January 6 2016 Insurrection of Sicknick and Other People is Motivated by His Democratic Distancing of Joe Biden

The lawsuit states that Donald Trump’s words and conduct caused violence that resulted in the deaths of Sicknick and other people.

The civil lawsuit, filed Thursday in Washington, DC’s federal court, adds to the presidential candidate’s problems because of his attempts to impede the transfer of power after his 2020 electoral loss. Trump is already a defendant in several other civil January 6-related civil lawsuits, where he is arguing his presidency makes him immune from liability.

“Trump intentionally riled up the crowd and directed and encouraged a mob to attack the U.S. Capitol and attack those who opposed them,” the complaint said.

In September, Khater and Tanios both pleaded guilty to assaulting law enforcement with pepper spray during the breach. The two are going to be sentenced in the near future.

During the riot, Khater sprayed Tanios and other officers in their faces with bear spray and forced them to recoil as the rioters moved towards the Capitol steps.

The video shows Sicknick in the crypt of the Capitol, appearing to give instructions to some of the nearby rioters who are milling around the area, repeatedly waving his arms. Carlson argued that it is hard to imagine that Sicknick died as a result of the insurrection since he looked healthy and vigorous in the video.

The new Sicknick footage does not disprove the medical examiner’s conclusion that January 6 influenced Sicknick’s death, and it doesn’t erase the fact that Trump supporters assaulted Sicknick that day.

The probe of the Trump-supported attempts to disrupt the win of Joe Biden is being headed by special counsel Jack Smith. In recent weeks, prosecutors have taken new investigative steps, including obtaining documents from local election officials. Trump has not been charged with a crime.

The Decay of Benjamin Sicknick, the Day of the January 6, 2021 Capitol, and the Loss of Trump’s Word

Trump’s words that day were blamed by the partner’s death as a direct and foreseeable consequence. She assigned liability to the two men accused of attacking Sicknick with chemical spray.

The lawsuit was filed a day before the 2nd anniversary of the attack. Each of the defendants have been accused of causing at least $10 million in damages.

Sicknick was part of a line of police guarding the perimeter of the U.S. Capitol on the day of the attempt to stop the vote.

Tucker Carlson on Monday broadcasted new footage from the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, that included images of the rioter, known as the Qanon Shaman, as well as Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died following the attack.

Carlson was given access to more than 40,000 hours of Capitol security footage. CNN and other news organizations requested access to the security footage. McCarthy’s office said it is still working out the process to make the footage “more widely available” but did not comment further.

Carlson claimed that new Capitol security footage taken on January 6 shows Jacob Chansley, known as the “QAnon Shaman,” walking through the Capitol without pushback from police.

In one clip, Chansley is shown with two officers who attempt to open a door near the Senate chamber. In a second clip, Chansley, still flanked by the two original officers, walks between a group of about half a dozen officers and none appear to try to step in.

The court documents show that Capitol Police officers tried to reach out to Chansley and others in the crowd.

Additionally, Capitol Police officers have testified at several January 6 trials that after the initial wave of rioters entered the building, they felt outnumbered and were afraid of escalating violence by engaging with the mob. According to the officers, members of the crowd were able to walk into the building without resistance.

Carlson used a new video to try to undermine certain facts surrounding Sicknick’s death, and to argue that January 6 was less violent than has been portrayed.

According to Carlson, the new tape of Sicknick was recorded after he was attacked on the frontlines of the Capitol steps, earlier in the day. CNN does not have access to the footage and cannot verify Carlson’s claims, and it’s unclear how Fox News determined that it’s Sicknick in the video.

Two rioters pleaded guilty for their roles in the attack on Sicknick, but neither of them were accused of killing him. Julian Khater, who deployed the spray, is currently serving a six-year prison term. His friend George Tanios spent five months in jail and has been released.

A New Look at the January 6 Sicknick-Sicknick Assassination (and the Associated Police-Resistive Charges)

“Every time the pain of that day seems to have ebbed a bit, organizations like Fox rip our wounds wide open again, and we are frankly sick of it,” the Sicknick family said in the statement.

More than 100 people are facing federal or local charges for their roles in the January 6 attack, with some having been charged with resisting officers or employees.

According to the department, 140 officers were assaulted at the Capitol that day, including 60 Metropolitan Police officers and 80 Capitol police officers.
