The war in Lebanon has resulted in thousands flee their homes

Israel is trying to reach a cease fire in Gaza and in Lebanon, with an emphasis on the Hezbollah and the Hamas regime

Israel’s call to evacuate northern Gaza was not dropped from the opening weeks of the war. Around a million people were told to flee the south but up to 300,000 remain in the heavily damaged north.

An Israeli airstrike killed two children in Gaza City’s Zaytoun neighborhood, according to the civil defense first responders’ group that operates under the Hamas-run government.

Nearly 42,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the start of the war, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. It does not say how many were fighters, but it does say that a little more than half were women and children.

Last week, Israel launched what it called a limited ground operation into southern Lebanon after a series of attacks killed longtime Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and others. The fighting is the worst since Israel and Hezbollah fought a brief war in 2006. Israel says it has killed hundreds of Hezbollah fighters in the ground battles.

There are tents next to the Corniche, which is steps from luxury homes. Om Ali Mcheik said that they do not want to die at the hands of Netanyahu.

Some refugees from Syria who had to move on again by another round of conflict have seen their lives shattered in a short period of time after arriving in the north of Lebanon.

Israel intensified its bombardment of Lebanon late Saturday, striking a Palestinian refugee camp in the north for the first time, as it also expanded its bombardment to Hezbollah and Hamas.

Israel’s military earlier Saturday said about 90 projectiles were fired from Lebanon into Israeli territory. Most were intercepted, but several fell in the northern Arab town of Deir al-Asad, where police said three people were lightly injured.

On Saturday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “Israel has the duty and the right to defend itself and respond to these attacks, and it will do so.” He said that they were not done yet on Lebanon.

Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, told reporters in Damascus that “we are trying to reach a cease-fire in Gaza and in Lebanon.” The unnamed countries are putting forward initiatives that do not involve the Middle East.

At least 1,400 Lebanese, including civilians, medics and Hezbollah fighters, have been killed and 1.2 million driven from their homes in less than two weeks. Israel says it aims to drive the militant group away from shared borders so displaced Israelis can return to their homes.

Israel has killed several Hamas officials in Lebanon since the Israel-Hamas war began , in addition to most of the top leadership of the Lebanon-based Hezbollah as fighting has sharply escalated.

The strikes reportedly targeted a building near a road leading to Lebanon’s only international airport, and another building formerly used by the Hezbollah-run broadcaster Al-Manar. Social media reports claimed that one of the strikes hit an oxygen tank storage facility, but this was later denied by the owner of the company Khaled Kaddouha.

In Beirut, airstrikes lit up the skyline and loud explosions echoed across the southern suburbs, known as the Dahiyeh, throughout the night, as Israel struck what it said were Hezbollah militant sites.

Thousands of people in Lebanon, including Palestinian refugees, continued to flee the widening conflict in the region, while rallies were held around the world marking the approaching anniversary of the start of the war in Gaza.

A person is killed and at least 10 others wounded in a bomb attack on the central bus station in Beersheba, Israel: a “precision strike” on the mosque

A person is dead and at least 10 others are wounded in an attack on the central bus station in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba. Police said they were handling it as a terror attack, but they did not name the attacker.

The October 7 attack which set off a year of violence across the region, came as Israel is on high alert.

The approaching one year anniversary of the fighting in the Gaza Strip was a horrible reminder of the costs families there have faced, as Israel said it had been a “precision strike” on the mosque.

An Associated Press journalist counted the bodies at the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital morgue. Hospital records showed that the dead from the strike on the mosque were all men.

The Israeli military announced a new air and ground offensive in Jabaliya, in northern Gaza, home to a densely populated refugee camp dating back to the 1948 war surrounding Israel’s creation. It circulated photos and video footage showing a column of tanks heading toward the area.

Residents mourned their relatives on social media when the airstrikes were announced. Imad Alarabid said in a Facebook post that an airstrike on his home in Jabaliya killed a dozen family members, including his parents. Saeed Abu Elaish, a Health Ministry medic, said he was wounded and bleeding.

The TV journalist, whose work had been aired on several networks, was killed in shelling of his home. Anas al-Sharif, an Al Jazeera reporter in northern Gaza, confirmed his death.

Israeli attacks on militancy in southern Gaza: Israel’s most severe air campaign since Sept. 23, with an attack on a large rocket salvo

The military says it has expanded the so-called humanitarian zone in southern Gaza, urging people to head there. Hundreds of thousands of people have sought refuge in tent camps with little in the way of water, food or toilets. Israel says it has hit militancy in the area of the humanitarian zone.

In an October 7 attack, 1,200 people were killed and another 250 were taken hostage. A third of the captives they are holding are believed to be dead.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said the area was hit by more than 30 strikes overnight, the heaviest bombardment since Sept. 23 when Israel escalated its air campaign.

Hezbollah said it successfully targeted a group of Israeli soldiers in northern Israel “with a large rocket salvo, hitting them accurately.” It was not possible to confirm the claim.

The widening conflict risks further drawing in the United States, which has provided crucial military and diplomatic support to Israel. Iran-allied militant groups in Syria, Iraq and Yemen have already joined in with long-distance strikes on Israel.

In the northern part of the strip, commanders ordered the evacuate of hundreds of thousands of people after the Israeli military dropped warnings of a new phase of war.

“There’s no safe place” for Israeli soldiers, as thousands of displaced families are forced to flee from Israeli attacks in southern Tyre

“Tomorrow will be a complete year, too, enough is enough, I watched my dying father being carried out of the mosque,” she said. “We are tired. By God, we’re so tired.”

More Israeli soldiers are being moved to the border with Gaza to protect commemoration ceremonies in communities that saw more than 200 hostages taken by Hamas last year.

“There is no safe place” Riqad said Saturday. “The Israelis are bombing everywhere.” Two young children in his family asked if bombs would reach them at a hotel where a politician affiliated with Hezbollah provided shelter to them and other displaced families.

One man, Riqad, who only gave his first name out of concerns for his safety, had arrived four days ago with his family from the southern suburbs of Beirut, after earlier fleeing Israeli attacks near their home in the southern city of Tyre.

The devastating impact on Lebanese society has been shockingly swift. One pre-med student who only gave her first name, had started college a month earlier.

“I thought it would be one of the best years of my life. She said that she worked so much to get to the university. The coffee and my friends are what I miss the most at my university days. That’s all I want now.”
