A warning on the reported sightings of high-velocity, low-profile drones in New Jersey and a plea for more transparency
The public is not given an explanation as to why the drones are in the air above New Jersey, prompting one lawmaker to call for a limited state of emergency. One Republican US congressman even claimed the drones were originating from an Iranian “mothership” lurking off of the state’s coastline, an assertion the US Defense Department quickly batted down.
“We are supporting local law enforcement in New Jersey with numerous detection methods but have not corroborated any of the reported visual sightings with electronic detection,” US authorities said in a statement. A review of available imagery shows that a number of the reported sightings are actually manned aircraft. There are no reports of drones in any restricted air space.
A group of politicians sent a letter to the FBI, DHS and FAA on Thursday requesting more transparency and a briefing about the investigation.
New Jersey Drone Sightings: What Do They Tell Us About Their Degenerate State-of-the-Art States?
People across New Jersey have been reporting reports of mysterious drones flying in the sky over them, especially at night. The reports were spread to Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Queens. The United States Federal Aviation Administration imposed a temporary ban in New Jersey this week on flying drones over the Army’s Picatinny Arsenal in Wharton and a golf course owned by US president-elect Donald Trump in Bedminster. While the mystery has become a growing sensation, virtually no information has been available about whether the sightings are connected or represent anything out of the ordinary.
The FBI and Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that they were working with New Jersey State Police on the investigation, but they noted that there was no known malicious activity occurring in New Jersey and that it was showing the insufficiency of current authorities.
“Today, I spoke with Liz Sherwood-Randall, White House homeland security adviser, to discuss my concerns over the federal government’s response to recent drone sightings in NJ,” New Jersey governor Phil Murphy wrote in a social media post on Thursday. I will press the federal government for answers on behalf of the public.
