Tom Sizemore, 61, is Deciding End of Life Matters following an Update from his Doctors, according to a CNN Message

The family of actor Tom Sizemore is currently “deciding end of life matters” following an update from doctors, according to a statement CNN received Monday evening from Sizemore’s manager Charles Lago.

Doctors have told his family there is no hope for survival and they need to make a decision. The family is now deciding end of life matters and a further statement will be issued on Wednesday,” the statement said.

“We are asking for privacy for his family during this difficult time and they wish to thank everyone for the hundreds of messages of support, and prayers that have been received. This has been a difficult time for them.”

On Feb. 18, Sizemore was hospitalized and placed in critical condition after suffering a brain aneurysm. Sizemore had remained in a coma until his death on Friday. The actor was 61 years old.

The Detroit-born Sizemore had an early, small role in the Oliver Stone 1989 film “Born on the Fourth of July,” and had his break in television playing Sgt. Vinnie Ventresca around the same time, in the ABC series “China Beach.”

He appeared in a number of hit crime and war movies in the 90s and 2000s, including “Heat,” “Natural Born Killers,” “Pearl Harbor” and “Black Hawk Down.”

Other notable roles for Sizemore came in the titles “The Relic,” “True Romance” and “Bringing Out the Dead,” the latter costarring Nicolas Cage and directed by Martin Scorsese.

The actor was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2000 for best performance by an actor in a motion picture or miniseries for his role in “Witness Protection.”

He was convicted in 2003 on domestic violence charges related to his relationship with Heidi Fleiss. He told CNN’s Larry King in a 2010 interview he had been addicted to cocaine, heroin and meth, and he participated in the 2010 season of the reality show “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.”

He replaced Harvey Keitel in Devil in a Blue Dress and backed up his hero Robert De Niro as part of a criminal gang in Heat. Then, in Saving Private Ryan, Sizemore delivered the line that helps convince his group of fellow traumatized Army soldiers that searching for their lost comrade might be the one decent thing they do during the ugliness of World War II.

Paul Sizemore expressed his sadness over the loss of his brother Tom. He was taller than life. He has influenced my life more than anyone I know. He was great, loved, giving and entertained with his wit and stories. I am sad that he’s not here and that I will never see him again.

In 1991, Sizemore played the lead in the film “Point Break”, followed by “True Romance” in 1993, and “Natural Born Killers” in 1994.

His costarring role as Bat Masterson in Kevin Costner’s western “Wyatt Earp” earned Sizemore acclaim. He went on to other major roles in “Pearl Harbor” and “Black Hawk Down,” both released in 2001.

In a 1995 interview with Decider,Sizemore was asked if he had any hesitancy about being in a comedy TV show.

During the two months that it was playing in the theater he saw that movie every week. I have seen it 11 weeks in a row. I started thinking about being part of it when they are doing that up there. I want to do that.’ And I started to figure out how to become an actor.”

Sizemore grew up watching movies with his mother. He became fascinated with Robert De Niro’s performance in Taxi Driver, as he told the website Decider in 2022.

At Wayne State University, Sizemore studied theater. After a period of waiting tables in New York City while trying to carve out a career, he started getting cast in an impressive streak of celebrated films.

But Sizemore’s life went off the rails after appearing in a few more massive Hollywood war films, including Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor. In 2003 he was found guilty of abusing his then-fiancée, known as the “Hollywood Madam”. He was arrested many times for driving while intoxicated, having drugs and for domestic violence. He is alleged to have behaved in a flirtatious manner with an 11-year-old girl on a film set, although the claim was dismissed in 2020.

Sizemore managed to keep working. He starred in the lowest-grossing movie of 2006. He repeatedly tried to get clean. When Sizemore appeared on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2010, he said it was his ninth stint in treatment and described his periods of sobriety as the happiest in his life.

Sizemore appeared in a number of shows and movies in the year 2016, including Law & Order: Special Crimes Unit, Twin Peaks, and Cobra Kai.
