The 13-inch MacBook Air and 15-inch Air come with a 5-inch Magic Keyboard, Mesh Shades, and Dynamic Caching
Just like the M2 MacBook Air Apple released in 2022, the M3 models include a Magic Keyboard with a full-height function row with Touch ID. The new M3 MacBook Airs come in four colors, including starlight, space gray, and silver. The previous midnight option was prone to getting covered in fingerprints and it should come as a nice change to have a midnight color that has an anodization seal that helps reduce fingerprints.
One thing to note is that the laptops come with different power adapters. Most upgraded versions come with a 70 watt transformer included in the price. The base model only ships with a 30W power input, though you can upgrade to either a 35W or 70W power input for a fee.
You will have to pay an additional $200 for each 16 and 24 gigabytes of RAM, but they both come with 8 gigabytes of memory. You can also upgrade the base 256GB of SSD storage to 512GB for $200, 1TB for $400, and 2TB for $800.
The upgrade can be found under the hood. Unlike the M1 and M2 chipsets, the M3 lineup is built on a 3-nanometer process, which means it packs more transistors into a smaller space and enhances both the speed and power efficiency of the chip. It has new features such as ray tracing, mesh shading, and dynamic caching. You can read about that here.
The 15-inch MacBook Air was released less than a year ago. It was the first of its kind in the Air lineup and includes a majority of the same features as its smaller counterpart. It makes sense that the same design was used on both.
Along with the GPU upgrades, both laptops support up to two external displays when closed. They come in four colors, starlight, space gray, silver, and midnight, and they are supported by faster download speeds thanks to a 6 GHz band. The latter shade is built with an anodization seal that should reduce fingerprints — something that plagued the previous midnight models.
Like the 13-inch Air, the base 15-inch Air is available for preorder from Apple starting at $1,299 with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage; it comes with your choice of a 35W dual-port adapter or 70W adapter. You can also buy the 8GB RAM base model with an upgraded 512GB of storage for $1,499, 1TB of storage for $1,699, or 2TB of storage for $2,099.
