The leaks of the Switch 2 keep coming

How Nintendo Stole the CES Show? High-Resolution Renderings of Nintendo’s Next-to-Leading Switch

Nintendo isn’t officially at CES, but it might have stolen the show anyway: accessories-maker Genki brought a 3D-printed mockup of what it says is Nintendo’s Switch successor, and we got to hold it and take some high-resolution pictures.

There have been leaks and rumors about Nintendo’s successor to the Switch, and as the deadline approaches, it is clear that the new device will be announced by Nintendo. The Chinese case manufacturer provided a non-functional Switch 2 mock up in a video that was posted on the SwitchUp channel in December. A new square button under the right Joy-Con, along with a new home port on the top of the device were revealed as a result of the mockup.

The second new button on the Joy-Con was shown in the renders from OnLeaks and 91Mobiles. However, they say the new button is above the Home button; other leaks have included the new button below it. The Joy-Cons in the renders have the large buttons in the back that are apparently used to detach the controllers from the console, which are apparently attached magnetically.

Tsai also tells The Verge that housed within the mounting channel of the Joy-Cons is an optical sensor, and by using another attachment the new Joy-Cons may offer mouse-like functionality. It sounds a bit like what Lenovo does with its Legion Go handheld.

Days later, accessories-maker Dbrand announced its “Killswitch 2” case, and CEO Adam Ijaz told The Verge that it was designed based on “actual dimensions” based on a “3D scan of the real hardware.” Ijaz also said that it was his “understanding” that the console’s Joy-Cons are magnetically attached. The new square button had a slogan printed on it, though I can’t remember what it was. Sean Hollister talked with a person on the internet who claimed to have photos of the inside of a Joy-Con and the dock of the Switch 2.

A new Nintendo Switch 2 is leaking. We may have a better idea of what the new console will look like thanks to the new renders from OnLeaks and 91Mobiles.

The renders also show an interesting color scheme for the Joy-Cons: they are mostly black but have color accents — light blue on the left one and orange on the right — under the joystick pads and on the bumped-out part of the controllers with the SL and SR buttons. A similar design was found for the alleged Switch 2 left Joy-Con with blue accents. I love it, personally.
