Israel expands its bombardment in Lebanon

Israeli troops, displaced people and Hezbollah’s security forces in southern Gaza during the first two months of the Gaza war: Israel and Lebanon

The opening weeks of the war were when Israel pressed for the complete removal of northern Gaza. Up to 300,000 people are estimated to have remained in the heavily destroyed north after earlier Israeli warnings that sent around a million fleeing to the south.

An Israeli airstrike killed two children in Gaza City’s Zaytoun neighborhood, according to the civil defense first responders’ group that operates under the Hamas-run government.

According to the Health Ministry in Gaza, over 42,000 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of the war. It does not say how many were fighters, but says a little more than half were women and children.

In the last week, Israel launched a limited ground operation into southern Lebanon, after a series of attacks killed most of Hezbollah’s top commanders. The fighting is the worst since Israel and Hezbollah fought a monthlong war in 2006. Nine Israeli soldiers have been killed in ground clashes that Israel says have killed 440 Hezbollah fighters.

Other displaced families now shelter alongside Beirut’s famous seaside Corniche, their wind-flapped tents just steps from luxury homes. “We don’t care if we die, but we don’t want to die at the hands of Netanyahu,” said Om Ali Mcheik.

Many Syrians in Lebanon are heading back after spending a couple of days on the road. The roads were very crowded and difficult to navigate. We almost died getting here. Some children whimpered or cried.

Associated Press journalists saw hundreds continuing to cross the Masnaa Border Crossing on foot, crunching over the rubble after Israeli airstrikes left huge craters in the road leading to it on Thursday. Iran is thought to be the supplier of Hezbollah’s weaponry.

The Israeli military said about 90 projectiles were fired from Lebanon. Most were intercepted, but several fell in the northern Arab town of Deir al-Asad, where police said three people were lightly injured.

On Saturday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “Israel has the duty and the right to defend itself and respond to these attacks, and it will do so.” On Lebanon, he said ”we are not done yet.”

Iran is trying to reach a cease-fire in Gaza and in Lebanon, the foreign minister told reporters in Damascus. Regional states and some outside the Middle East are among the countries putting forward initiatives, according to the minister.

Shortly thereafter, Hezbollah claimed in a statement that it successfully targeted a group of Israeli soldiers near the Manara settlement in northern Israel “with a large rocket salvo, hitting them accurately.”

The official with the Hamas military wing was killed along with his family in an attack by Israel on Saturday. There were Israeli strikes on Lebanon in the eastern Bekaa Valley. The buildings were smashed and there were no stairways to nowhere.

The strikes reportedly targeted a building near a road leading to Lebanon’s only international airport, and another building formerly used by the Hezbollah-run broadcaster Al-Manar. The oxygen tank storage facility that the social media reports said was hit by one of the strikes was denied by the owner of the company.

The strong explosions began near midnight and continued into the morning after Israel urged residents in Dahiyeh to leave. The south suburbs are Hezbollah’s stronghold and the blasts illuminate them. They followed a day of sporadic strikes and the nearly continuous buzz of reconnaissance drones.

Thousands of people in Lebanon, including Palestinian refugees, continued to flee the widening conflict in the region, while rallies were held around the world marking the approaching anniversary of the start of the war in Gaza.

A strike on a mosque kills 19 as Israel bombards northern Gaza and southern Beirut: A source at the time of the Beersheba terrorist attack

A stabbing and shooting attack at the central bus station in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba left one person dead and 10 others wounded, according to first responders. Police didn’t name the attacker but said they were treating it as a terror attack.

As Israel is on high alert for an October 7 attack which set in motion a year of violent across the region, the attack took place.

In the Gaza Strip, is Deir al-balah. As Israel intensified bombardment of northern Gaza and southern Lebanon in a widening war with Iran-aligned militant groups, 19 people were killed in a mosque strike in the Gaza Strip.

An Associated Press journalist counted the bodies at the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital morgue. The dead from the strike on the mosque were all men.

The Israeli military announced a new air and ground attack on Northern Gaza, home of a denselypopulated refugee camp dating back to the 1948 war. The group of tanks was shown in the photos and video footage.

People mourned their relatives on social media. Imad Alarabid said in a Facebook post that an airstrike on his home in Jabaliya killed a dozen family members, including his parents. Saeed Abu Elaish, a Health Ministry medic, said he was wounded and bleeding.

In the bombardment of his home in Jabaliya, a TV journalist was killed who had footage that had been aired on other networks. Anas al-Sharif, an Al Jazeera reporter in northern Gaza, confirmed his death.

The Gaza Aided Relief Zone: Israel, Hezbollah, Syria and Yemen have stepped up to defend itself against militants

The military says it has expanded the so-called humanitarian zone in southern Gaza, urging people to head there. Hundreds of thousands of people have already sought refuge in sprawling tent camps there with little in the way of food, water or toilets. Israel has carried out strikes in the humanitarian zone against what it says are militants hiding among civilians.

The attack on October 7 killed at least 1,200 people and took another 250 hostages. Around 100 captives are still being held, of which around three are believed to be dead.

The area was hit by over 30 strikes overnight, which is the most bombardment since Sept. 23 when Israel launched its air campaign.

Hezbollah said it successfully targeted a group of Israeli soldiers in northern Israel “with a large rocket salvo, hitting them accurately.” It was not possible to confirm the claim.

The widening conflict risks further drawing in the United States, which has provided crucial military and diplomatic support to Israel. Iran-allied militant groups in Syria, Iraq and Yemen have already joined in with long-distance strikes on Israel.
