Israel has ordered more than a million people to leave northern Gaza in order to prepare for a ground offensive. Its military strategists appear to be planning the depopulation and reoccupation of at least part of an area home to around 2.3 million people — nearly half of them children — and most of them descended from people driven from their homes before and during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. We need to know that they are all at grave risk.

Israeli Defense Forces are Informing Israel to Operate the Gaza Strip Cataclysm: A Second Nakba?
Israeli troops and civilians pulled out of Gaza in 2005 after nearly four decades in the territory. Since then, Israeli forces have re-entered Gaza to fight Hamas a number of times. The largest operation was in 2014, which lasted seven weeks. More than 70 people died on the Israeli side of the invasion. It was a major loss for Hamas, but they were able to rebuild.
Israeli forces said they retrieved bodies of several missing Israelis, as well as items that could potentially lead them to more missing people. Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari added that troops destroyed “terrorist infrastructure and squads, including a Hamas unit that fired anti-tank missiles toward Israel.”
Hecht said that the violence increased in the West Bank as well, leading the Israeli Defense Force to take action there.

The depopulation of Gaza would be manifestly inhumane and a violation of international law. President Biden and his advisers should ask themselves how it can be in the national interest of the United States to allow another mass expulsion of Palestinians from their homes. Such a cataclysm would be a second nakba, or catastrophe, as the displacement of 1948 is called. The United States would thereby be a partner with Israel in creating a future for the Palestinians that offers only periodic death, destruction and dispossession and permanent subjugation or expulsion.
JERUSALEM — Israel Defense Forces said Sunday they were “in formation” to strike Gaza City, as troops massed on the border ready for an apparent ground invasion.
“Lots of people are waiting here in front of the Palestinian gate. The Palestinians are not here to open the gate and the Egyptians aren’t here either as they are in Egypt. So we are all waiting, what’s going to happen? Nobody has any information.” she said.
