A British citizen was forcibly held at Tate’s residence for questioning by the director of the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism
Andrew Tate, a former professional kickboxer, is best known for his online rants about male dominance, female submission and wealth. He openly advocates violence against women, and had previously been banned from every major social media platform until Elon Musk reinstated his Twitter account after taking over the company.
A translated statement issued by the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) did not directly name Tate, but it confirms search warrants were executed at five homes while taking four people “reasonably suspected” of criminal activity in for questioning, saying they will be detained for 24 hours.
He used to be the head of a subscription-based online course called Hustler’s University, in which he told his customers how to earn $10,000 a month through various scam activities.
The victim was raped on two separate occasions by one of the suspects. A DIICOT statement said six victims were sexually exploited by the criminal group.
This is the second time investigators have come to the location, after a complaint to the US embassy in April claiming an American citizen was being forcibly held at the Tates’ residence. The brothers were taken in for questioning before they were let go. Prosecutors have been waiting for the Tate brothers to get back to the country since the months since, Gndul reports.
There are reports that the raid happened as a result of Tate taking to social media to say he was getting a life after being told to get a life. Twitter was on the list of platforms that banned Tate. his account was back up in November after five years.
Gndul has reported that police were called after they saw signs on social networks that the brothers were in Romania.
DIICOT: Investigating a Romanian gang through a raid on a family of Tate-like people who met in a crime agency
DIICOT shared a video of the raid with blurred images of luxury cars and items that may be similar to the ones Tate has displayed in his videos.
Authorities in Romania said police served search warrants at five homes and detained four suspects, — – two Britons and two Romanians – as part of an investigation into organized human trafficking and rape. They did not name any of those detained.
The four suspects were taken into custody for an initial 24 hours. It asked a Bucharest court on Friday for the detentions to be extended to 30 days, according to Reuters.
DIICOT released an edited, grainy, sometimes out-of-focus video purportedly showing the raids. A man can be seen being patted down by police. It’s unclear who is being detained in the video.
In a separate video aired by CNN affiliate Antena 3, officers from the crime agency can be seen escorting Andrew and Tristan Tate into police vehicles.
The authorities allege that two of the suspects misled the victims “into believing that they intended to enter into a marriage/cohabitation relationship” while transporting victims to Romania and later sexually exploiting them with physical violence and coercion.
