With all of Israel’s borders with Gaza closed since Oct. 7, the day the militant group Hamas launched a brutal attack on Israeli towns, the only operational crossing into Gaza is Rafah, along the territory’s southern border with Egypt. Only aid trucks have been allowed to cross that border.

The judge presiding over the case has ruled the Trump Organization committed fraud by lying about the value of their assets. The amount of money the defendants should pay if found liable will be determined by the trial.

The other night, we accepted an invitation to visit the Israeli military spokesman’s office. The people I worked with observed how young most of them seemed. Israelis commonly perform compulsory military service after high school. Many others have been summoned back to service, and the majority were in their twenties.

We were going to see the latest version of the Israeli government video showing the Hamas attack. On screen, many people were young. One scene, taken from security cameras in a home, shows two boys in their underwear, having been surprised in bed by the early-morning attack. Their father tries to herd them into a shelter but is apparently killed in front of them.

As of today, Gaza’s Health Ministry said more than 8,500 people had been killed. The U.N. says nearly 70% of them are women and children. The start of the war brought about a cut off of the water supply for many civilians.

War is nearly always conducted by the young, though older people tend to send them. It often is inflicted on the young, who are not consulted beforehand. There’s a special irony of this conflict in that it turns on arguments over land that stretch back generations — even centuries — long before any of today’s participants were born.

The announcement followed a 34-hour communications blackout in Gaza over the weekend that coincided with the start of Israel’s “expanded” ground operations.

It took place as internet and phone service was not available in Gaza. The Palestine telecommunications company blamed the outage on international routes being disconnected again.

On Tuesday, 59 trucks of aid entered Gaza, which was the largest number of trucks in one day since aid began crossing. Israel continues to block fuel deliveries. Dozens of additional trucks were expected to enter Gaza Wednesday.

Many of the people who gathered at the border were carrying suitcases and cartloads with them, as seen in the Live TV footage.

The Hamas Border Authority also said 81 “seriously injured” people would be taken to hospitals in Egypt for medical care. Live television footage of the crossing showed ambulances entering the terminal. There is no detail on who those people are.
