A TV journalist and a young girl were shot to death in the Pine Hills, California, neighborhood on Wednesday morning. Authorities say Moses and three of his colleagues were killed
Authorities said a television reporter and a girl were shot to death near a scene of another fatal shooting.
Mina said Moses is already facing a murder charge for the initial victim, and charges are expected soon for the other four victims. The sheriff said that Moses’ criminal history includes gun charges, as well as assault with a deadly weapon, and grand theft offenses.
The sheriff said Moses has a lengthy criminal history that includes gun charges, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and assault with a deadly weapon.
There were reports of a woman in her twenties being shot in the Pine Hills area on Wednesday morning.
Mina said the two journalists – a photographer and reporter – were on the scene to cover the homicide that morning and were shot in or around their vehicle.
There’s a vehicle that is almost identical to the vehicle that was killed this morning. It is not clear why they were targeted. And you know certainly we’re going to look into that, and we will definitely let you know,” Mina said.
After the journalists were shot, the suspect then entered a home on a nearby street and shot a mother and her 9-year-old daughter, the sheriff said. The child died and the woman was critically wounded when they were taken to the hospital.
This is every reporter’s worst nightmare. We go home at night and fear that something will happen here. A colleague of mine died while covering a shooting.
CNN said in a statement that it stands with its partner, Spectrum News 13, and will support them and the families of the journalists who were killed.
“No one in our community – not a mother, not a 9-year-old, (and) certainly not news professionals – should become the victim of gun violence in our community,” Orange County Sheriff John Mina said in a news conference detailing the suspect’s arrest.
The suspect is not saying a lot right now, Mina said. “It is unclear if he knew they were news media or not. We’re still trying to work all that out.”
Moses “was an acquaintance of the woman this morning, but as far as we know, had no connection to the reporters and no connection to the mother and the 9-year-old,” Mina said.

The journalist died. The other was in Critical condition, but spoke and was expected to go to a hospital later in the day, the news station said.
The suspect with a lengthy criminal history is being investigated for whether he knew that employees of Spectrum News 13 were members of the media.
Investigators had quickly identified Moses as a suspect in the first shooting and were following leads when the TV journalists were shot around 4 p.m., the sheriff said.
“These are people that this afternoon we were having regular conversations here in the newsroom. The day was regular. The anchor said it was not just colleagues, but family members.

His fiancée is distraught and there are members of his family here. “There are other media people who are corralled together and standing in solidarity tonight as one of our own has passed.”
We are terribly sad at the loss of our colleague, and all the others that were taken today. We are thinking of our employees family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time. We’re hopeful that our colleague who was hurt is going to make a full recovery. This is a terrible tragedy for the Orlando community.”
